Ivan Moult - 'Longest Shadow' Album Launch
+ The Gentle Good (solo)
+ Eugene Capper & Rhodri Brooks music
28th March 2018
£6 adv | 7:30pm | 18+
Ivan Moult is set to release his second LP, ‘Longest Shadow’, on 30th March, 2018. The follow-up to 2014’s ‘Second Guessing’ conjures similar stylistic touchstones, such as the 70s acoustic of John Martyn and Nick Drake, while covering darker confessional and emotionally honest subject matter, likening his latest output to that of Josh T. Pearson and Damien Rice.
Defined by the human fluctuation of love, ’Longest Shadow’ charts Moult’s real-life progression through the fledglings of blissful romance into the fragmentation of embittered break-up. The soft, subtly shattered vocals are complemented by the orchestral compositions and double bass of Callum Duggan, the precision percussion of Sam Thomas and backing vocal contributions from Kadesha Drija.
Ivan has already gained radio play across the BBC national and regional radio shows and has been awarded tour support slots with the likes of Willy Mason and This is the Kit.
We're delighted that he'll be launching his sophomore release at Buffalo with very special guests The Gentle Good (solo) and Eugene Capper & Rhodri Brooks.

UNIFORM (NYC - Sacred Bones)
Uniform return to Cardiff. They're back following the release of their raging and critically acclaimed second LP 'Wake In Fright'. This tour also sees a mammoth addition to their (until now) two piece lineup, coming in the form of reputable NYC drummer and experimental talisman Greg Fox (Liturgy, Z's, Guardian Alien). This is 1 of only 2 UK shows on this run!
Wake in Fright, the second full-length by the New York City duo Uniform, is a harrowing exploration of self-medication, painted in the colors of war. Following the Ghosthouse 12", whose A-side Pitchfork called “their most relentless track yet,” vocalist Michael Berdan and guitarist/producer Ben Greenberg return with a new batch of even more punishing songs that incorporate elements of industrial music, thrash metal, harsh noise, and power electronics.
“This record is primarily about psychic transition,” Berdan explained. “The distress that these songs attempt to illustrate comes from a place of stagnation and monotony. This is what happens when old ways of thinking become exhausted and old ways of coping prove ineffective. Something must change or it will break.”
The characters Berdan brings to life in his lyrics quit using but have ruinous relapses (“Habit”) or struggle as their resolve crumbles (“Bootlicker”); they use alcohol to ease their insomnia but and are helpless when they get sober and stop sleeping again (“Night of Fear”); they’re existential misanthropes trapped in dead-end lives (“The Lost”). While the titles have been largely culled from the world of horror, thematically these songs have more in common with the works of Hubert Selby, Jr than Lucio Fulci. These are stories about people at the end of their proverbial ropes. Their old medicines are no longer effective and their old ways of living cause them nothing but confusion and despair. They are paralyzed by fear, regret, and self-doubt. This is either the darkness before the dawn or eternal night.
Greenberg sets these stories to menacing guitar and samples of literal sounds of war — the kick drums are bombs going off, the snares are gunshots. He drew the record’s immense sample library from action movies, Foley sound packs, field recordings, and more, and the result is devastating. The guitar is also as crucial as ever, and now as indebted Slayer as it is to Big Black. Greenberg conjures up massive riffs and shredding solos, pushing the band deeper into the metal world whose borderlands they’ve long stalked. Where the inner monologues of Berdan’s characters and Greenberg’s martial sonic palette collide, Wake in Fright finds its wrecking-ball power.
“We are surrounded by war and the whole world is burning and it doesn't seem like there are any appropriate reactions or responses left anymore,” Greenberg elaborated. “This music is our response to and our reflection of the overwhelming violence, chaos, hate, and destruction that confronts us and everyone else in the world every day of our lives. When we play, I don't feel powerless anymore. I hope this record can help others transcend their anger and frustration."... See MoreSee Less
Hailed by the Metal Hammer magazine as “one of the UK's most idiosyncratic rock bands”, Godsticks are a progressive heavy rock band from South Wales. They released their fourth album ‘Faced With Rage’ via the Kscope label in October, which was described by Prog Magazine as “a winning blend of channelled aggression and emotional depth, combining lyrical intelligence and instrumental fireworks”.
Having toured extensively throughout Europe with The Aristocrats, Mike Keneally and The Pineapple Thief, Godsticks will be showcasing their explosive new material at this headline show.
Support will be provided by Calling Apollo.

Growing up in West London, 22 year old singer songwriter Nifüler Yanya was immersed in music from an early age, listening to acts such as Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse and the Pixies. Her artist parents (with Bajan, Turkish and Irish heritage), introduced her to a plethora of diverse sounds.
With her husky voice and sparse, lo-fi sound flit between soul, R&B and indie; she describes her music as “raw – even when it’s a finished track it’s still got that kind of unfinished, unpolished edge to it”.
Nominated for BBC Music's Sound of 2018, we are sure to be seeing a lot more of Nilüfer Yanya this year and we can't wait to welcome her to Cardiff.

We fell in love with pink kink when they played Gwdihŵ for Sŵn Festival back in October and we cannot wait for them to return to Cardiff for a riotous headline show at Buffalo this June.
Seeming to draw influence from garage, punk, shoegaze, jazz, psychedelic rock and art-pop, their music shifts seamlessly from genre to genre without at any point feeling embellished or forced. With a provocative live set, their hard-to-define presence has cast a spell on fans throughout the UK.
